We share with you the experience about how to use expert advisor studio to train a neural network and how to avoid over-optimizing the EA after backtesting.
I spent 2 weeks training my neural network and backtesting my new algorithms. Now it's finished.
# I started using the trained model now.
I have developed expert advisor s(EA) with a very good performance before. So maybe you will ask why I trained neural networks again? Because we can't guarantee the parameters would work always, so we need to train the model again and again. Not frequently, but at least once per year.
Every day we have new information, new news , so some of them will change the trend. We need to follow the trend. The expert advisor s would not know when the trend started changing, they don't read a news paper, so we need to notify them to refresh, to retrain the parameters inside them.
# I started focusing on developing Fintechee since the beginning of 2018.
I didn't trade for a long time. Of course, the EAs haven't been trained for a long time as well. So I trained them again, now it's done.
The performance is good. I just used 2-year historical data to train the neural network model. The results are inspiring.
# Be careful when you use the trained trading system. Don't make it over-optimized.
The backtesting should be run at least twice. Once for training the neural network model, the other time for verifying the model trained by a different duration with completely independent historical data.
For example, you trained your model by the data from 2016 to 2017, then you must verify the model by the data from 2018 to 2019. If you don't do that, your model may be over-optimized and may be more compatible with the data from 2016 to 2017 than the data from 2018 to 2019. That means your algorithm may not work in the future.
